Mclaren MSO X
Say hello to the MSO X, an exclusive run of ten GT4-road-legal McLaren Sport Series supercars. The men and women at McLaren Special Ops didn’t just slap a fixed rear win on the rear deck lit and call it a day. The team stripped the 570S off all the features of comfort and “safety tech” it could get away with to remove as much weight as possible from the car while still being legal to wear a number plate. They kept the parking sensors and nose life onboard and added a race-spec air conditioning system because, well, all ten were sold out of McLaren Newport Beach where Southern California summer heat can be brutal!
Now to the fun stuff. To balance the 100kg increase in downforce form the GT4 wing, a new carbon hood with massive intakes provide added negative lift on the front axle, similar to those found on the P1. Further, new dive planes and side skirts manage airflow as it passes along the car aiding in forcing the Pirelli Corsa tires into the tarmac. Circling to the rear, you’ll find a modified rear bumper with an extra cutout for weight savings and a titanium exhaust that allows its twin-turbo V8 to breathe more freely. The engine, however, does put out the same 562hp found in the standard 570S.
The livery on this particular MSO X is taken from the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans #59 McLaren F1 GTR. The two were paired together for a photoshoot at Laguna Seca Raceway during Car Week 2018 thanks to McLaren Newport Beach.
