The 488 GTB
The 488 GTB name marks a return to the classic Ferrari model designation, with "488" indicating the engine's unitary displacement and GTB standing for Gran Turismo Berlinetta. The new GTB in Ferrari's lineup not only delivers thrilling performance, it makes that power exploitable and controllable for inexperienced drivers through tech taken from their F1 and FXX programs. Additionally its SSC2 (Ferrari’s Side Slip Control System) allows the driver to be more precise while proving to be less invasive than standard traction control systems. It does this by analyzing various parameters that boosts longitudinal acceleration out of corners by 12%. Aside from integrating with the car’s F1-Trac and E-Diff, the SSC2 also controls the active dampers, making the car’s dynamic behavior during complex maneuvers extremely stable.
The 488 GTB’s awesome performance and driving dynamics are greatly reliant upon the SCM 3 magnetorheological damping system which has an upgraded ECU to modify the magnetic field in the dampers 100s of times a second. Translating into immense driver confidence due to better body control and bump absorption.
Its brakes have also been upgrade thanks to Brembo's new Brembo Extreme Design braking system, decreasing the 488 GTB’s stopping distances by 9% over the 458. Taken from the LaFerrari, the brakes also feature new calipers that allow optimal cooling under extreme driving and new materials that allow them to reach optimal operating temperature quicker while being more durable.
