F-Type S
Jaguar released its latest sportscar all aluminum chasis back in 2013 in the form of the standard 340hp F-Type, 380hp Supercharged V6 F-Type S or a mean 550hp Supercharged V8 F-Type R. The aluminum architecture meant it was much stiffer (and lighter) than traditional steel frames which allows the suspension to handle the articulations in the driving surface rather than affecting the entire chassis of the car (note: its 50/50 weight distribution helps too). The amazing driving experience of the V6 F-Type S begins before you even set foot in the vehicle. The F-Type sits low and wide giving it an aggressive look, but its the way the lines flow from the headlights to the rear haunches of the car that make it one of the best looking modern sports cars.
However its the engine that is the king of the party. When driving through town in normal mode the car is comfortable, quite, civilized and a joy to cruise around. However, if you decide to get out of town into some winding roads, put the car in Dynamic mode and step on the gas the F-Type turns into an entirely different animal. The car's Adaptive Dynamic systems go into full effect by increasing throttle response, sharpening up gearshifts, perking up the suspension and most notably opening up the exhaust valves that billow out high pitch screams on full throttle and burbling crackles off throttle. Jaguar's Adaptive Dynamics system modifies a number of handling characteristics on the fly to tailor the car to the current driving conditions. The system takes in a multitude of data by continuously monitoring vehicle metrics like speed, steering input, body movements, etc that allow the car's onboard computer to calculate the appropriate suspension response up to 500 times per second. The best part about it is even with traction control on the car still allows you to initiate over steer with the flick of the throttle. Bottom line, the system doesn't feel as if it is driving you, instead it feels as if you have a trusty mate that will keep things in check if you decide to push things to far.
At only $80k from the factory or $40k-$50k 2nd hand it easily takes the top step in my book for the most enjoyable driving experience. Would you take the Jaguar F-Type S over a 911 Carrera S?
