GT3 TOURING
Porsche brought back the original idea of the Touring Package variants of the 1973 911 RS in the form of the all new (manual only) GT3 Touring. The original Touring Packages comprised of two variants: Touring and Sport Lightweight. The Touring featured a radio, carpets and other amenities while the Sport Lightweight was virtually a stripped-out, road-legal race car. With the new GT3 Touring Porsche took a different approach of leaning towards purism than additional functionalities or comfort.
What Porsche did was drop the giant rear-wing, dropped in a luscious manual transmission and maintained all the amazing bits that make the GT3 one of the best supercars including its 4.0L N/A six-cylinder engine that screams up to 9,000rpm. The engine produces 500hp at 8,250rpm and 460Nm of torque to the rear wheels. A torque vectoring system, rear-wheel steering and mechanical rear-locking diff come as standard and its adaptive dampers drop the ride height by 25mm when compared to a standard 911. Despite the lack of a rear-wing the GT3 Touring actually produces more drag and (of course) less downforce (221lbs to be exact) than the GT3 meaning the car's top speed comes in at 196mph when compared to the GT3's 199mph top speed.
It was just a few years back when car enthusiasts feared the total annihilation of the manual transmission. Lucky for us, Porsche continues to heed our calls a produce manual transmission cars available in the US. They may have teased us with the 911R but unlike BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini and most other sports car or supercar manufacturers Porsche continues to develop amazing pieces of machinery that allow us to directly engage with them.
